Regarding the voting for Hillary over McCain thing. First off, it doesn’t shock me that much that some would do that.

But I think there’s one factor that might swing some of those voters back to the Republicans, and that’s the VP nomination. Usually people aren’t voting strictly for the VP, but here it’s a bit different.

Not wanting to sound like I’m hoping for this, but McCain is 71 years old and it wouldn’t be completely out of the realm of possibility that the VP will have to take over because of health reasons. Let’s say that McCain does get the nomination. If he’s smart, he’ll pick someone like Fred as a running mate (I think John Bolton might be an even better pick, though). Even if a 25th amendment situation doesn’t come up, with the expanded role that Cheney has taken as VP, it just might make enough of a difference.

Of course, a friend suggested that if McCain and Hillary get the nomination, they might pick each other as VPs and that is a more terrifying outcome than I wish to think about.

Frankly, I think people are delusional if they buy into this “He can beat Hillary/Obama” nonsense, regardless of what the polls say. Nine months ago, McCain was firing staff left and right, was way down in the polls, and looked to be finished and Rudy was in the lead, big-time. I would not be at all surprised if the media is pushing for a McCain GOP win because they have some serious dirt on him and will release it when it’s too late.

Right now my hope is that it goes all the way to convention and, unlike 1976, the conservatives get their way this time. Either that or that Huckabee drops out on Monday and Romney takes off like mad.
